Other Creative Uses For Glass Shower Doors

Glass shower doors are a commonplace item when you want and/or need to replace the shower doors in your bathroom. However, if you are the creative type, you can actually use glass doors for other purposes. The following highlights just a few of the ways in which these doors might be used creatively.

Sliding Glass Doors on a Garden Shed

If you are building a garden shed from the ground up, why not try to incorporate sliding glass shower doors into the design? These doors would easily slide open and shut, like patio doors, except they would allow more light and warmth into the garden shed and provide a means to leave the shed open to pollinating insects and fresh air. The reason for using glass shower doors instead of patio doors is simple; sliding glass shower doors are often smaller and made to fit tighter spaces, such as the space available for a door in a garden shed. Even the smallest patio doors cannot fit a garden shed, and they would look ridiculous and bulky.

Single Doors to Magnify Weak Light

You may have some areas of your yard that, while they get a little sunlight, they simply cannot help things grow properly. If you take a single glass shower door and stick it in the ground, it magnifies the light shining through it, like a naughty child frying ants with a magnifying glass. In this case, however, you would be magnifying heat and light onto everything behind the glass. It produces greenhouse results on plants and flowers in shaded areas, without having to erect a full greenhouse on the spot.

To be sure the door stands upright, bury about eight to twelve inches of the bottom door in the ground then place bricks right behind and at the bottom edge of the door. If you get a shower door with a towel bar, you can convert the shower bar into a window box support and decorate it. You can also etch designs into the door, so long as they do not block out too much of the sun's light.

Reinforced Glass Doors as Storm Doors

While you would not want to install glass shower doors in lieu of traditional storm doors, the reinforced glass shower doors make a reasonable, and temporary, substitute. You could use them in a pinch for porch storm doors or as replacement window glass until you can get a window and glass repair expert out to your house. They can be used as storm doors on garages (if you want them to) or on other outdoor structures where you are not trying to protect valuables or a major assets.
